Contemporary Tapestry Weaving
In the 20th century, artists began to look at textiles as a serious medium for expression.. Anthropological discoveries stirred up curiosity about traditional crafts worldwide. Anni Albers, the mother of modern Textile Arts, was influenced by the abstract patterns found in ancient and modern Peruvian fabrics. As other artists joined in the exploration of texture, color and pattern a renaissance of hand-weaving in the Art World blossomed.
Modern Tapestry Weaving is not as complicated or rigidly defined as the Traditional Pictorial Tapestry. Textile Arts today borrow ideas from many sources and pay homage to the skills of weavers from around the world.
This beginning weaving class is designed for adults.
