Date: Saturday, March 8, 3-6pm
Instructor: Julian Wong

Join artist and designer Julian Wong for an introduction to Chinese painting in this friendly and relaxed workshop. You will learn about the history of Chinese painting as we explore a variety of brush techniques and how to create different values from light to dark with sumi ink.  Students will learn to paint Chinese characters, bamboo, rocks and sparrows. *Please purchase required class kit here.

Julian Wong was born in Boston, MA and was raised in Hong Kong. As a youth in Hong Kong, Wong studied traditional Chinese painting with renowned artist Chao Shao An. Eventually moving to the United States, Wong received a Bachelor of Arts focusing on Painting at the University of California at Santa Cruz and then received a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design from California College of Arts, San Francisco.

His work is in collections in Boston, San Francisco, Detroit, New York and Rehovot. His illustration has appeared in publications by MIT Press, Wayne State University Press and Weizmann Institute, Israel. Recently, he has been collaborating with Detroit artist Ryan Standfast.  He is a member at The Hatch Art Studio in Hamtramck, MI. Wong is an accomplished industrial designer. He has worked with Civilla, DDOT, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel and Target.
