Sarita Westrup
Art Teacher Ages 5 to Adult .
Sarita Westrup is a visual artist and arts educator from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. She received her Masters in Fine Arts in Fibers from the University of North Texas and currently teaches natural dye and basketry workshops throughout the south. Most notably, Sarita taught at the Penland School of Crafts in the summer of 2017. As an artist and instructor of fiber arts, Sarita enjoys emphasizing the processes, history, and contemporary use of weaving and dyeing techniques. She is passionate about the conceptual relationship natural dyes and basketry has to the idea of place and identity. Along with maintaining her individual practice, Sarita works collaboratively with artist Analise Minjarez under the name Tierra Firme. Sarita has exhibited her works at form & concept gallery, Box 13 Artspace, Turner House, and Kirk Hopper Gallery. She currently lives and works in Dallas, Texas.
Sarita began as an intern in 2012 and now works as Oil and Cotton’s Studio Manager, aiding in adult workshop programming and off-site family programming assistant. She also teaches a series of extensive natural dye workshops for adults and children at Oil and Cotton
